Elena Passarello is the author of two collections of essays, both published by Sarabande Books. Her debut collection, “Let Me Clear My Throat,” discusses the human voice in pop culture. Her most recent book, “Animals Strike Curious Poses,” tells the stories of 16 famous animals from history. “Animals Strike Curious Poses” was a New York Times Editor’s Choice and will soon be reprinted in Germany, France, and the UK. Passarello's essays on performance, pop culture and the natural world have recently appeared in Virginia Quarterly Review, Oxford American, Paris Review Daily and in the forthcoming anthology on television and childhood, Little Boxes. The recipient of a 2015 Whiting Award, she teaches in the MFA program at Oregon State University.
