Book Nominations Now Being Accepted

The Tucson Festival of Books is known for unique panels, record-breaking crowds and high-volume book sales that entice best-selling authors to attend the Festival in March. The Author Committee is responsible for scheduling all book related programming at the event.

Self-published and emerging authors are welcome to apply. The selection criteria for both Presenting Authors and Author Pavilion participants are outlined below.

Please Note:
Submit only one nomination per title / author. Multiple submissions may result in a delay in notification. Submitting more than one nomination for the same book does not increase the likelihood of acceptance. Decisions of the committee are final.

Presenting Authors

The Tucson Festival of Books Author Committee works year-round to identify authors to serve as Presenting Authors at the Festival. We strive to identify books from a variety of subject areas and diverse genre. Panel sessions are created at the sole discretion of the Author Committee.

In addition to the presenting authors invited by our committee, we welcome book nominations from authors, publishers, publicists and the general public. In 2015 alone, hundreds of titles were nominated; of those, a limited number were selected for inclusion at the Festival.

Nominations for the 2016 Festival are open until September 30, 2015.

Criteria for consideration include:

  • Book must be a recent publication (published between August 1, 2014 and February 29, 2016)
  • Book must be published by a well-established publishing house or one of their imprints (self-published books, titles published by independent / boutique publishing houses, e-books, textbooks and books published outside of the United States are not eligible for consideration)
  • A nominated author, if selected to participate as a Presenting Author, is responsible for all travel and lodging expenses associated with attending the Festival

Nominated authors will receive information related to their status after the committee reviews the nomination. Books that do not meet the stated criteria may be eligible to participate in the Festival via the Author Pavilion or through the exhibitor process.

Author Pavilion

The Tucson Festival of Books welcomes authors from a variety of subject areas and diverse genre to participate in the Festival. In 2015 alone, hundreds of authors applied for consideration. More than 120 authors participated in the Author Pavilion.

Registration information for the Author Pavilion will be emailed in November. Registration is completed on a first-come, first-served basis. Specific information for the Author Pavilion will be provided in the registration email.

General information for the Author Pavilion -

$35 registration fee entitles author to:

  • One 2-hour time slot in a shared venue with up to 10 authors per Pavilion
  • One-half of an 8-foot table to display materials, meet and greet the public, and sign and sell your publication (room for author and one assistant)
  • Temporary business license privileges during the Author Pavilion time period only (tax remittance paid at end of Pavilion appearance)
  • Promotion via the Tucson Festival of Books website indicating your participation in the Author Pavilion
  • Information in the Arizona Daily Star Festival of Books insert identifying your participation

Not included with Author Pavilion participation:

  • Electricity
  • Presentation or reading opportunity

Those eligible to participate in the Author Pavilion are expected to:

  • Provide their own book(s) for sale and pay tax remittance per local policies to Pavilion staff (determining the appropriate number of books to bring is the sole responsibility of the author)
  • Promote their participation via social media platforms and other marketing strategies (strong marketing via electronic platforms may increase sales)
  • Cover all costs associated with travel, lodging, meals, shipping costs, tax remittance, and any / all other costs associated with participating in the Festival (individuals traveling from out-of-state should consider the costs associated with attending the Festival and carefully weigh the costs and benefits of participating in the Author Pavilion)
