Here are some quick facts about the Tucson Festival of Books.
The Tucson Festival of Books is a community-wide celebration of literature. Offered free-of-charge, the Festival exists to improve literacy rates among children and adults. All proceeds following the Festival support critical local literacy programs.
The first Festival was in 2009. 2018 is the Festival’s 10th anniversary. Attendance has grown from 75,000 to over 100,000 including authors and visitors from all over the U.S. and overseas too.
Support of Literacy
The Tucson Festival of Books supports literacy throughout our community. Over the last nine years, the Festival has donated $1,650,000 to literacy organizations, helping to build a stronger more literate community for us all.
The festival is organized around approximately 360 author presentations. These presentations take place on the University of Arizona campus in venues ranging from small classrooms to large auditoriums. There are presentations of all types including Young Adults, Fiction, Non-Fiction, History, Cook Books, Science and many more. Hundreds of authors have graced stages at the Festival since 2009. The list is impressive and shows the breadth and depth of Festival offerings. The Festival is grateful to the many authors and publishers who are part of the Festival Family!
In 2011, the Festival Founders Award was established to recognize exceptional literary achievement. Past Founders Award Winners are:
2011 - Elmore Leonard
2012 - Larry McMurtry & Diana Ossana
2013 - R.L. Stine
2014 - Richard Russo
2015 - Mitch Albom, Dave Barry, Sam Barry, Greg Isles, Ridley Pearson, Amy Tan & Scott Turow -The Rock Bottom Remainders

Children’s/Young Adults Area
This is a section of the Festival dedicated to enchanting children of all ages. Children’s authors and illustrators share their work, stories are read aloud, Tucson’s famous "Stories that Soar!" artists perform, and every young visitor can leave with their own book. There is a special section for Young Adults featuring authors who specialize in this audience.
Each year about 30 food vendors set up shop in the food courts offering Festival goers an opportunity to sample culinary delights from Tucson’s local restaurants.
There are more than 200 vendor booths with authors, booksellers, artists, non-profits and many more showcasing their latest offerings.
Ignite your senses and engage your mind with over 100 hands-on activities, exciting demonstrations, informative talks, author panels, book signings, and engaging presentations for all ages. Explore the UA’s science-rich campus by participating in open houses, tours, and events throughout the course of the weekend. Visitors will experience the connection between our daily lives and advances in science, as well as hear about the ground-breaking research being done right here at the UA.
