Mario T. García

Born in El Paso, Mario T. García is distinguished professor of ­chicano ­studies and history at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He has published more than 20 books on Chicano history and won many awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and the 2016 Stetson Kennedy Vox Populi Award from the Oral History Association.

His new book is "The Making of a Mexican American Mayor."
