When Memory Fails

Our memories help us define who we are. We know our family, friends and inner beliefs all because of what the brain remembers for us. So what do we do when we no longer have our memories to guide us? Leif Enger, Mary Kubica and Joanna Luloff asked their characters those very questions.

Leif Enger

Leif Enger was raised in Osakis, Minnesota, and worked as a reporter and producer for Minnesota Public Radio before writing his best-selling debut novel "Peace Like a River" which was one of the Los Angeles Times and Time Magazine’s Best Books of the Year....

Mary Kubica

Mary Kubica is the New York Times best-selling author of "The Good Girl" and "Pretty Baby." Her latest novel is "When the Lights Go Out." She lives outside of Chicago with husband and two children and enjoys photography, gardening and caring for animals at a local shelter....

Joanna Luloff

Joanna Luloff received her MFA from Emerson College and her Ph.D. from the University of Missouri. Before graduate school, she served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Baddegama, Sri Lanka. Her short stories and essays have appeared in The Missouri Review, Western Humanities Review, The Cincinnati Review, Memorious and New South, and her collection The Beach at Galle Road was published by Algonquin Books in October 2012....
