John Michael Olson

Mike Olson grew up in Tucson. He went to Howell Elementary, Alice Vail Jr. High School, Amphi HS and graduated from UofA in 1986 with a degree in Architecture and a commission in the US Army.

He wrote "Crossing the Tigress" as therapy, to help him process what happened in Iraq to him, other coalition members and the Iraqi people.

This is not a typical war story. This is a unique look from a perspective of an Iraqi woman who Mike worked with at the Iraqi Ministry of Health. It challenges humanity, our country, and civilians and soldiers impacted by war to try to understand what and why.

Don't read this book if you want to continue to think that John Wayne got war right.

Come out to the Tucson Festival of Books and talk to the author on Sunday, March 11 from 10:00 am - 12:00 and/or visit him online at

"Inshallah," if you read this book, you may never see war the same way again. Thank God.
