Hailey began her writing career in the sixth grade as a kid reporter for Time for Kids magazine and has been addicted to storytelling ever since. Born in California and raised in Arizona, she's a Southwest girl through and through who loves stories about fellow multicultural girls finding their way in the world. She is the author of "Up In Flames" and currently lives in Scottsdale, Ariz. with her husband, two daughters and precocious German Shepherd.

YA Workshop: Remix/Retell to Trouble Classics
One current trend is retelling or remixing classics to challenge problematic aspects of the original book. Cherie Dimaline has remixed The Secret Garden and Peter Pan, while Hailey Alcaraz has retold Gone with the Wind. Cherie and Hailey will share their strategies for remixing classics and then invite participants to consider how they could "trouble" a favorite classic novel.

Finding an Agent and Working with an Editor
Getting published involves navigating the often unknown process of finding an agent and, once the book is accepted, figuring out how to work with an editor. Haley Alcaraz is a debut author who shares her tips from recently navigating this process, while Veera Hiranandani shares both as an author working with agents and editors and as a former editor of children's books.
