Veera Hiranandani, author of the Newbery Honor–winning "The Night Diary," earned her Master of Fine Arts in creative writing at Sarah Lawrence College. She is the author of "The Whole Story of Half a Girl," a Sydney Taylor Notable Book and a South Asia Book Award finalist and "How to Find What You're Not Looking For," winner of the Sydney Taylor Book Award and the New York Historical Society Children's History Book Prize. A former editor at Simon & Schuster, she now teaches in the Writing for Children and Young Adults Master of Fine Arts Program at The Vermont College of Fine Arts. Her new book is "Amil and the After."

Writing about anxiety is a difficult balance for authors who must convey a character's stress while providing moments of hope. Three authors share their strategies for writing about characters who deal with anxiety and trauma through drawing, relationships, and project work.

Finding an Agent and Working with an Editor
Getting published involves navigating the often unknown process of finding an agent and, once the book is accepted, figuring out how to work with an editor. Haley Alcaraz is a debut author who shares her tips from recently navigating this process, while Veera Hiranandani shares both as an author working with agents and editors and as a former editor of children's books.
