Russell J Vanderboom

Russ Vanderboom served as a Marine in 1970, where he first trained as a journalist. He later built a career in agricultural journalism in Wisconsin as he learned to be a storyteller. He wrote about people and farm life in scores of articles published weekly in The Agriview and The Country Today.

At a key moment he realized that he would do well to become a subject matter expert in an area about which he was passionate. He delved into science.

His studies in genetics, reproductive endocrinology and mammary physiology evolved into a keen, driving interest in the pathology of breast cancer. Medical science became the focus of his second career.

He combined his interests in science and journalism as the medical science writer for research at the Cleveland Clinic, and then as the senior science writer at the American Association for Cancer Research in Philadelphia. He retired from Mayo Clinic after a career in science writing and research.

He and his spouse, Catherine, live near Ely, Minnesota, adjacent to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

These life experiences are reflected in his fiction novels, "The Good Guy List" and "North Star Resort," the first two books of a trilogy.
