Michael Perry

Lee Butterworth

Michael Perry is a New York Times bestselling author, humorist, volunteer firefighter and amateur snowplow driver. A lifelong resident of the rural Midwest, this reflective roughneck deals with life in Middle America. Among his 25 books is his latest, "Improbable Mentors and Happy Tangents." Perry is a registered nurse who put himself through college working as a Wyoming cowboy and a roller-skating Snoopy. Even now, he makes occasional calls with the volunteer fire and rescue service near his home in rural Wisconsin.

He Did It His Way ... and Theirs
For 30 years, author and humorist Michael Perry has been his own boss, working with a wide range of bright and creative people. Not long ago, he realized some of them had actually served as mentors, even if he didn’t know it at the time. If this is a leadership model, count us in.
