Bonnie Jo Campbell is the best-selling author of six books of fiction, including "Mothers, Tell Your Daughters," "Once Upon a River," which has been adapted into an award-winning feature film, and "American Salvage," which was a National Book Award Finalist. She has traveled with the circus, organized adventure tours and earned a master's degree in mathematics. She received her Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from Western Michigan University and now lives in Kalamazoo with her husband and donkeys. 

Campbell is known for her poignant and gritty storytelling, often centered around the struggles and resilience of working-class individuals in rural America. Her newest novel is “The Waters” and was published on Jan. 5, 2024. It is a mesmerizing novel about exceptional women and the soul of a small town.

Awards: Guggenheim Fellow, Pushcart Prize, Grace Paley Award, Eudora Welty Award, Mark Twain Award. Finalist for the National Book Award and National Book Critics Circle Award.
