Eliana Suárez Rivero was born in Cuba, immigrated to the U.S. in 1961, and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Miamin in 1963. She is Professor Emerita in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Arizona. She taught Latin American and U.S. Latino/Latina literatures and cultures for 45 years. She was also adjunct professor of Women’s Studies and Latin American Studies.
For the last 20 years, Rivero has focused her work on the study of Cuban-American literature and culture, having published over twenty articles and essays on Cuban and Cuban-American themes. In 2016, she returned to Cuba after an absence of 31 years to be part of a literary tour led by Tom Miller.
