Odaiko Sonora

Kathleen Dreier

Odaiko Sonora is Tucson's taiko, Japanese ensemble drumming group. Opening Minds through the Arts in Tucson Unified School District is an arts integration program that uses the different art forms to teach the tested core curriculum. The two have partnered in OMA Taiko and Dance to expose students to the discipline and cultural learning inherent in Japanese folk art traditions. Second graders from either Lineweaver or Wright Elementary will perform dances within an original Japanese-style folktale, accompanied by taiko drums, other Japanese instrumentation and melodies, and narration.
