Impacts due to asteroids and comets have shaped the course of evolution on Earth. While the threat due to impact is minimal during human lifetime, their stochastic nature makes them hard to ignore. The talk will summarize the results of the first global planetary defense exercise where many nations participated to detect and track a near-Earth asteroid as if it was an impactor. Prof. Reddy led this global campaign and will summarize how well the Earth is prepared for the next asteroid impact. This session is presented by Vishnu Reddy, Professor of Planetary Science, UA Lunar & Planetary Laboratory.
