John Slattery


John Slattery helps people develop relationship with the native plants of the Southwest while developing community resiliency through the spread of this knowledge. His passions include creating unique foods from the landscape of the Sonoran desert as well as medicines which derive from a deep connection to place. His Sonoran Herbalist Apprenticeship Program educated the community from 2010 to 2016, and he founded Desert Tortoise Botanicals, a handcrafted herbal products company, in 2005, after completing a clinical herbalist training at the Southwest School of Botanical Medicine. John maintains a clinical practice in Tucson, Arizona where he joins his young daughter on forays into the local desert landscape. John Slattery is the author of "Southwest Foraging."
