Emily C. Creigh

Longtime Tucsonan Emily C. Creigh published her 'parallel memoir' "Journey to the Heart of the Condor" last year to wide acclaim. It has received all five-star ratings on, recently won the 2017 Moritz Thomsen Peace Corps Experience Award given by Peace Corps Writers, and sold hundreds of copies. Co-written by Paraguayan educator-turned-political prisoner Dr. Martín Almada, the book interweaves Emily’s true confessions about her two and a half years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Paraguay from 1975 to 1977 with Dr. Almada’s compelling (and coincident) account of his unjust abduction and imprisonment by US-supported dictator Alfredo Stroessner. Returned PCV Caleb O (Paraguay, 2009–2011) described it as “really wonderful, funny, heartrending and brave." The authors are thrilled their book is being translated into Spanish, and Emily hopes to have copies of Viaje al Corazón del Cóndor available at the 2018 Tucson Festival of Books. This is Emily’s third appearance at the Festival, an important community event that she is more than happy to support.
