I have lived in Tucson since 1960. After serving in Peace Corps–Paraguay from 1975 to 1977, I'd always hoped to write about my transformative experience. The opportunity came when I was laid off from my teaching job in 2011. I began doing research on the Internet and quickly discovered Paraguayan Martín Almada, a world-renowned educator and defender of human rights who, as it turned out, had been a political prisoner (for teaching critical thinking) during the time I was in Paraguay. Dr. Almada gave me permission to include his story, and the two are interwoven in our “parallel” memoir. Enjoy the festival and stop by to say hi!
