Jonathan M. Bryant

Jonathan M. Bryant’s books and publications engage the history of American law, slavery, and emancipation. His most recent book, "Dark Places of the Earth: The Voyage of the Slave Ship Antelope" won several academic awards and was a finalist for the 2016 Los Angeles Times Book Prize in History. He believes small places tell big stories, and loves unearthing tales that have long been ignored or forgotten. Dr. Bryant is Professor of History at Georgia Southern University, near the wonderful living history laboratory of Savannah, Georgia.
