Trudy Jean Ludwig


Trudy Ludwig lives in Portland, OR, and is the author of nine children's books: "My Secret Bully," "Just Kidding," "Sorry!," "Trouble Talk®," "Too Perfect," "Confessions of a Former Bully," "Better Than You," "The Invisible Boy," and "Gifts from the Enemy." Her books have received numerous awards and honors including the Victoria Soto Legacy Award, IBPA Gold Benjamin Franklin Award, NAPPA Gold Medal Award, Comstock Read Aloud Honors, Cooperative Children's Book Center's Best of the Year Selection, NCSS-CBC Notable Social Studies Books for Young People Selection, International Reading Association's Teachers' Choices Selection, Junior Library Guild Selection, and School Library Journal's Best Picture Books Selection. An engaging speaker whose work addresses social/emotional/relational issues kids face in their everyday world, Trudy has been featured on ABC’s Good Morning America, PBS’s Keeping Kids Healthy, Wall Street Journal, Huffington Post, Reading Rainbow, the National Crime Prevention Council’s Circle of Respect Program, and she has also served as an expert panel member on Sesame Street Workshop’s video series addressing bullying. Knopf/Penguin Random House will be releasing her next book, "Quiet Please, Owen McPhee!" in 2018.

Three authors who portray bullying in their books for young children and middle grade readers talk about their decisions about how to portray bullying in their books. They reflect on their strategies for writing about the effects of bullying on children and the portrayals of the bully as well as the child being bullied.
