Janelle Mathis is currently a professor of literacy and literature at the University of North Texas. With a passion for literature across all genre and for all ages of readers, she is currently exploring international literature that focuses on characters who show a strong sense of identity and agency—literature that encourages all readers to better understand the global community in which they live.

Conflict and Peace in Children's Books
Children deal with conflict in their lives and communities and in their awareness of world events. Literature affords an opportunity for children to understand conflict and peace, particularly through the use of paired books and texts sets that connect local to global situations and problems.
