Ron Hansen

Tucson University Park Hotel

Ron Hansen is the author of 10 novels--including "The Kid," "Mariette in Ecstasy," "Atticus", a finalist for the National Book Award, "Desperadoes," and "A Wild Surge of Guilty Passion"--and two short story collections, among them "She Loves Me Not." His novel "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" was a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award.

He graduated from Creighton University in Omaha and went on to the University of Iowa Writer's Workshop where he studied with John Irving. He is now Gerard Manley Hopkins, S.J., Professor of Arts and Humanities at Santa Clara University in Northern California.

True Stories That Aren't
One of the most popular genres in modern literature is historic fiction, aka creative nonfiction, tales that use fictional characters to explore and explain real events. Philip Caputo, Kevin Canty and Ron Hansen, three very accomplished authors, will explain how they are able to paint such vivid pictures of events remembered in black and white.
