Jose Pimienta (they, them, theirs)


Jose Pimienta was raised in Mexicali, Baja California and resides in Los Angeles, CA where they work on comics and storyboards for animation and film. "Suncatcher" was their debut YA graphic novel and ended on many best of lists. Their second graphic novel, "Twin Cities," received four starred reviews. His new book is "Halfway to Somwhere."  Jose focuses on the importance of Latinx culture and the experience of growing up on the border in their books.

Meet a bunch of authors in 60 minutes as they share their new books filled with invitations to adventure. Each author will be seated at a table to talk with a small group about their newest book. Every eight minutes the authors will rotate to a new table in our version of author speed-dating.

Children need hope to move forward from displacement in a broken world, be it a dystopian future with robots and evacuation camps or our contemporary present of forest fires and discrimination toward immigrants. These tales captivate readers through graphic novels, novels-in-verse, and nonfiction.
