Throughout her 45-year career, Lauren Freedman has been passionate about the role self-efficacy plays in how children use literacy as a tool for learning. She actively promotes inclusive learning environments that provide equity and promote building communities of learners. She is professor emerita in literacy studies at Western Michigan University where she taught undergraduate and graduate classes in the areas of content literacy and literacy development. Prior to teaching at WMU, she taught middle school language arts and social studies for 20 years in Tucson. After retiring from WMU, she served on the Kalamazoo Public Schools Board of Trustees.
