David Bowles is a Mexican American author and translator from South Texas. Among his multiple award-winning titles are "The Sea-Ringed World: Sacred Stories of the Americas," "Feathered Serpent, Dark Heart of Sky: Myths of Mexico," " Flower, Song, Dance: Aztec and Maya Poetry" and "Ancient Night." His latest book is "The Prince and the Coyote." Bowles presently serves as the vice president of the Texas Institute of Letters.

Resilience Rising: Navigating Violence & Loss
Violence and loss can lead to despair, but can also build the resilience needed to not only survive but to grow in resistance and strength as a person. These YA novels go across time and place, with Elana Arnold's "The Blood Years" set during the Holocaust in Romania and David Bowles' "The Prince and the Coyote" set in 1418 among the Nahuatl in Mexico. Cherie Dimaline's "The Marrow Thieves" is a future dystopia of Indigenous peoples set in Canada.
