T. J. Newman, a former bookseller turned flight attendant, worked for Virgin America and Alaska Airlines from 2011 to 2021. She wrote much of her debut novel, "Falling," while on cross-country, red-eye flights while her passengers were asleep. The book was released last summer and climbed as high as No. 2 on the New York Times best-seller list. "Falling" was named one of the best books of the year by Esquire and USA Today.
