Mary MacCracken

Cal MacCracken

MARY MACCRACKEN, an internationally bestselling author, has written four books about her work with autistic and learning-disabled children: Circle of Children, Lovey, City Kid and Turnabout Children. Her latest memoir, The Memory of All That, tells the story of her long marriage to her brilliant husband Cal, an inventor with eighty patents—and of losing him to Alzheimer’s. It is a 2022 Sarton Book Award Finalist for Best Memoir (winner to be announced in April). Her earlier books have been published in fourteen countries and the first two were made into movies for television, starring the actress Jane Alexander.  Recently republished, they still attract a wide readership.  Mary spent the decade after Cal’s death writing about their experiences dealing with his disease – the ways they triumphed over each of its challenges and sustained their loving relationship until the end.  She died shortly before finishing this last book, so her daughter, Susan Thistle, completed it for her.
