Lois Lowry has been awarded the Newbery Medal twice -- first for "Number the Stars," then for "The Giver." The author of more than 40 books for children and young adults, including the New York Times bestselling Giver Quartet and popular Anastasia Krupnik series, she has received countless honors, among them the Boston Globe Horn Book Award, the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Award, the California Young Reader’s Medal and the Mark Twain Award. She lives in Maine and in the winter sometimes flees to Florida for a bit of sun.

Lois Lowery, Katherine Applegate, Linda Sue Park and Donna Barba Higuera talk about why they think their book won the award and how the award has influenced their careers as creators of books for children. Their Newbery books include "Number the Stars," "The Giver," "The One and Only Ivan," "A Single Chard" and "The Last Cuentista."

A Conversation with Lois Lowry
Lois Lowery share her journeys as an award-winning author who writes across fantasy, realistic fiction and historical fiction. Lois will particularly focus on her newest novel, "The Windeby Puzzle," which interweaves an archaeological mystery of a teen mummified in a peat bog with the stories she was inspired to write. She also includes sections explaining her authorial decisions and illuminates the architecture of storytelling.
