Franklin Foer

Sponsored by Gerald and Barbara Goldberg

Franklin Foer wrote “The Last Politician: Inside Joe Biden’s White House and the Struggle for America’s Future” which focuses on the more polite form of politics that the president practiced during his first two years in office, beginning with his 2021 inauguration and concluding with the midterm elections of 2022 when what the “red wave” pundits had predicted failed to materialize.  Yes, there are some downsides, but overall it's a very positive look at the president.

Producing the news is an ever-more-complicated undertaking. It goes beyond the 24/7 pressures of competition, deadlines and protecting news sources. Owners, editors, reporters and on-air personalities face constant criticism about their coverage. In this session, our authors will discuss the challenges and what a "free press" might look like in the future.

Soothsayers’ Guide to Election 2024
As we head toward November's presidential election, we'll be consumed by what promises to be a brutal campaign. Will there be debates? Will the vitriol of the ads make us want to destroy our TVs? Will the barrage of coverage actually persuade potential voters to change their position? These Washington insiders give us their predictions, based on their in-depth reporting and research about candidates and voters.
