Workshop: The Power of Now

For writers who want to add three-dimensional depth to their work. What is the white-hot core of character motivation? What sets your characters in motion? Said another way, why does anybody do anything? So how does ink on the page make us feel something? Better, how is it possible that we can be lost in a book, that the story is more “real” than the world around us? How do we build empathy for fictional characters, both good and bad? What is motivation? How do you, as a writer, help readers connect with character—and connect so well that they don’t feel as if they are consuming plot points but a plausible, grounded story?
