I am old, Jewish and queer, and I have used my writing life to illuminate each of my identities and how I've lived them, as well as the ways they, like all identities, fold into one another like origami, making its own distinct and unique shape.
Each of my five books has been designed to identify something unspoken in women's lives and move those issues into public conversation. "Leaving Home at 83" is an intensely personal story, yet one shared with thousands of aging women wondering whether to move closer to their children and leave their friendships behind or stay in their communities. Readers will see their questions on these pages and recognize their fears, insecurities and uncertainties. With its sharp humor and refreshing honesty, this wry account brings a welcome and necessary perspective to the inevitable moment when we end one chapter of our lives and begin whatever comes next.
