Simply put, I'm a storyteller. The formats with which my stories have been told have varied throughout my life. I've told a few stories as a filmmaker with an MFA degree from New York University, Tisch School of the Arts, Graduate Film Program. I've told other stories as a singer/songwriter with my daughter's band, Alycea & the X Isles. I've even written and directed a couple of stage plays and a 5 part, 5 hour radio series on the History of the Apache soon to be updated and published as a podcast. I have a BA in Radio & Television from the University of Arizona along with a MA from the U of A School of Theater. It's wonderful to be back on campus again with the Tucson Festival of Books!
In recent years, my storytelling has moved into writing books for a young and young at heart readership. My new book "Nula" is a novella about a world where laughter no longer exists, that is until Nula comes along. It a humorous story, but also a cautionary tale of what could happen if we continue down the path of international strife, global pandemics, environmental degadation and increasingly invasive technology. The powers that be in Nula's world think that her innocent laughter is some sort of mental abberation. They're also convinced she's a harbinger of what could lead society back to the dark days before their world was straightened out by the computers and what we in our world call AI. When they discover her affliction is contagious they desperately try to repress it, but Nula and her band of misfits are not so easily controlled. This may sound a bit heavy, but it's really just the dark backgound to a funny and at times poignant story about Nula and her world.
