A career in the news business began when nine-year-old Pat Gaffey got his first paper route. He earned a journalism degree from California State University Northridge and worked as a production assistant on Casey Kasem’s American Top 40. He covered the San Diego Padres’ 1984 World Series season, the 1987 America’s Cup finals in Australia, and the OJ Simpson criminal trial in 1995. Prior to authoring the biography "Bobby Rich: My Life in Your Radio," he wrote biographies of three American gem artists whose work was showcased at the Tucson Gem Show.
