Sarah Smarsh
Doug Stremel Sarah Smarsh is a journalist and author whose first major book, "Heartland," was a finalist for the National Book Award in Nonfiction in 2018. She is coming to Tucson with "Bone of the Bone," a collection of essays that explore life in her native Midwest and the issues that have shaped the region's politics.
In 2021, she profiled Dolly Parton in a book entitled "She Come by It Natural."
Smarsh, who grew up on a wheat farm in Kansas and still lives nearby, is a frequent commentator and speaker on politics and class.
