Steve Friesen


Steve Friesen has written numerous articles about American history, has appeared in documentaries about the West and is currently a contributing editor for True West magazine. He received his MA from the Cooperstown Museum Program, associated with SUNY Oneonta and worked in museums for over 40 years. He served as director of Denver’s Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave for 22 years. He is the author of four books, his latest is "Galloping Gourmet: Eating and Drinking with Buffalo Bill."

Awards: Western Heritage Award from the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum; Joan Patterson Kerr Book Award from the Western History Association; Book of the Year Award for 2010 from the Mountain-Plains Museums Association; Finalist for a 2018 Spur Award from the Western Writers of America; Finalist for 2023 Colorado Book Award.
